Medical Surgical Nursing Department

  1. OVERVIEW
  2. The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing aims to offer comprehensive training to undergraduate and postgraduate students based on the philosophy that students need to be well informed not only in knowledge and skills but also in the upcoming scientific advances in different areas of clinical practices so as to enable them to face new challenges and opportunities in various health care settings.

  3. OBJECTIVES
  4. At the end of the course, the student will

    • Explain relevant anatomy and physiology of various systems of the body.
    • Apply Knowledge from physical, biological and behavioural sciences , medicine including alternative system and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and the community.
    • Demonstrate the understanding of life style and other factors which affects the health of individuals and groups.
    • Explain pathophysiology of various disorders.
    • Explain the actions, side effects and nursing implications in administering drugs for various disorders.
    • Discuss the recent advancement in the treatment and care of patients with medical surgical conditions.
    • Develop skill in giving comprehensive nursing care to patients following the steps of nursing process.
    • Assist the patients and their families in identifying and meeting their own heath needs.
    • Providing the nursing care on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups.
    • Appreciate the role of the nurse in the medical surgical health team.
    • Appreciate the trends and issues in the field of Medical Surgical Nursing as a speciality.
    • Apply concepts and theories related to health promotion.
    • Appreciate the client as a holistic individual.
    • Integrate the concept of family centered nursing care with associated disorder such as genetic, congenital and long term illness.
    • Recognize and manage the emergencies with medical surgical patients.
    • Describe various recent technologies and treatment modalities in the management of critical ill patients.
    • Appreciate the legal and ethical issues relevant to medical -surgical nursing.
    • Prepare a design for lay out and management of medical- surgical nursing.
    • Appreciate the role of alternative system of medicine in care of the patients.
    • Incorporate evidence based Nursing practise and identify the areas of research in field of Medical-surgical Nursing.
    • Recognize the role of Nurse practitioner as a member of the medical surgical health team.
    • Teach medical surgical nursing to Undergraduate nursing students & in-service Nurses.
    • demonstrate the awareness, interest and contribute towards advancement of self and of profession.

    1. Lab Facilities
      The college has got well equipped Nursing Foundation and Medical surgical nursing lab where students get hands on experience for various procedures. The students also get hands on experience in the Central Skill lab of college.
    2. Clinical Facilities

    As per the syllabus of medical surgical nursing the students are posted in respective clinical areas of medical surgical specialities and concern.
